A one-year coaching and mentoring journey for parents and their sons aged 12–14, guided by Coach Joe Chan.
Help your son develop confidence, responsibility and a clearer sense of who he wants to become—while strengthening your relationship with him.
Through personal guidance, shared learning and a special family Rite of Passage bootcamp in Chiang Mai, we prepare for this transition and work through it together.

You work hard to give your son opportunities. Yet as he approaches his teenage years, new questions emerge.
How do you help him take responsibility without constantly reminding him?
How do you stay connected when he begins turning more towards friends and seeking greater privacy?
Who can he learn from as he explores what it means to become a man?
And how do you adapt your parenting as he becomes more independent?
You want to approach these years intentionally. This journey gives your family time, guidance and opportunities to do that.
Guidance for your son. Support for you as parents.
Over one year, I work alongside your family as a coach, mentor and guide.
Your son has space to explore his strengths, talk through challenges and make choices he can take ownership of.
You have support to understand his changing needs, reflect on your responses and develop practical ways to guide him.
Together, we work towards a relationship where growing independence can sit alongside trust, connection and clear expectations.
We begin with your family’s circumstances and agree on meaningful goals. Your son’s perspective and willingness are part of that conversation.
Feeling clearer about when to guide, when to hold a boundary and when to give him room to try.
Developing ways to listen, communicate expectations and respond when conversations become difficult.
Making time for meaningful conversations. Understanding one another’s perspectives. Building shared agreements and recognising progress together.
We review these goals throughout the year, noticing what helps and adjusting where needed.
Speaking more openly about what matters to him. Taking greater ownership of commitments. Learning to respond to setbacks, ask for help and consider how his choices affect others.
Exploring the kind of man he wants to become—and how courage, care, integrity and responsibility show up in his actions.
A rite of passage intentionally marks a transition from one stage of life into another.
For your son, it is an opportunity to pause and consider what growing towards adulthood means: what he values, what responsibilities he is ready to practise and how he wants to contribute to the people around him.
Our approach involves preparing for that transition, stepping into guided challenges and returning home with commitments that your family can support.
The Chiang Mai bootcamp for families marks a meaningful milestone within this process. His growth continues through what he practises afterwards—and how those around him recognise and encourage it.
How the Year Unfolds
Build the relationship
We get to know your family, hear your hopes and understand your son’s perspective. We establish trust and agree on what you want to work towards.
Learn and practise
Coaching and mentoring conversations help your son explore everyday challenges and take practical steps. Parent sessions and shared learning help you support him while developing your own approach.
Prepare for Chiang Mai
We explore the meaning of the Rite of Passage experience together. Your son considers his intentions, and you reflect on how you want to recognise and support his growing independence.
Experience the family bootcamp
In Chiang Mai, guided challenges, reflection and family conversations create opportunities to put that preparation into practice and acknowledge his growth.
Reintegration back home
We reconnect afterwards to review the experience, support your commitments and work through the realities of everyday family life. The remaining journey gives you space to practise, reflect and adjust.
Personal coaching and mentoring
Dedicated conversations with your son, with you as parents, and together where helpful. Coaching supports reflection and ownership; mentoring brings guidance and relevant experience.
Workshops and talks
Shared learning around raising boys, navigating adolescence, communication and changing family responsibilities.
A parent community of practice
A facilitated space to exchange experiences, discuss what you are trying at home and learn alongside parents navigating a similar stage.
Resources for reflection and action
Guides, coaching prompts and selected resources help you continue the conversations between sessions. A journal can capture your son’s reflections before, during and after the bootcamp, while meaningful keepsakes remind him of the commitments he chooses.
The Chiang Mai family Rite of Passage bootcamp
A shared experience that brings the preparation, relationships and learning together.
The session schedule, resources, bootcamp arrangements and full fees are explained before enrolment.
This journey is designed for Singapore-based parents with sons aged 12–14 who want to:
Prepare their son for greater independence and responsibility.
Strengthen their relationship as he grows.
Introduce a trusted male coach and mentor into his support network.
Participate in their own learning as parents.
Make time for a shared family experience in Chiang Mai.
Your son may already be doing well. You may also be noticing uncertainty, friction or a growing distance between you.
We begin by exploring whether the journey fits your family’s needs and your son’s readiness.
I’m Joe Chan from Singapore, a youth and manhood coach, an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and a father of two teenage sons.
I hold a Social Work degree from the National University of Singapore and am a Master Solution Focused Practitioner (IASTI), with more than 20 years working with young people and families.
My background includes social work and casework management, school social work, running youth drop in centre, outreach to children’s homes and community settings. Today, my work brings together coaching, mentoring, parent education and Rite of Passage experiences for boys and families in Chiang Mai Thailand.
I believe boys deserve relationships where they feel understood and are invited to grow in responsibility. Parents deserve support as they learn how to guide that growth.
I bring professional experience and my continuing learning as a father into our work together.
What do you hope your son will carry into his teenage years?
What kind of relationship do you want to build with him as he becomes more independent?
Begin with a free online parent consultation. We’ll discuss your hopes, hear about your family and explore whether this one-year journey is a suitable next step.
You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions about the coaching, parent involvement, Chiang Mai experience and full investment.
Is this only for boys experiencing difficulties?
No. The journey also supports families who want to prepare proactively for adolescence and strengthen an already positive relationship.
Will parents take part too?
Yes. Your involvement is central. The journey includes support for your son and opportunities for you to learn, reflect and practise as parents.
What if my son is hesitant?
We take time to understand his concerns and introduce the relationship. He has opportunities to meet me and ask questions. We explore his willingness before agreeing on participation.
Will you share everything my son tells you?
We agree on confidentiality, its limits and how parents will stay involved before beginning. Your son needs space to speak openly, alongside clear arrangements for family conversations and updates.
Do both parents need to participate?
We discuss who will be involved and what is practical for your family. You can begin the initial consultation as one parent or together.
How are coaching/mentoring sessions arranged?
Online and physical sessions allow us to stay connected across the year. We agree on scheduled sessions based on our availability.
What does the Chiang Mai component include?
We explain the programme, accommodation, meals, transport arrangements and any exclusions in your proposal, together with the full fees.
Is coaching suitable for every family?
We explore suitability during the initial consultation. If your family needs therapeutic or specialist support, we discuss that openly and consider the appropriate next step.
